Before you write
- Prices are in US dollars and exclude duty and import tax, which your jurisdiction sets.
- Every work is painted to order, so nothing can be reserved for a viewing period beyond the 14-day returns window.
- Commission slots are limited by the number of painters, not by demand. A wait of two to three months before work begins is normal.
See the privacy policy for how enquiry details are handled.
Questions
Asked before commissioning
- How long does a commission take?
- A single-figure work in the Foundation series runs three to five months. A large Masterworks composition with extensive gilding runs nine months and can extend past a year. The studio quotes a range, not a date, because the gilding cannot be rushed to meet one.
- Can I choose the deity, size and palette?
- Yes, within the canon. Deity, format and the dominant ground colour are all yours to specify. What is not variable is the iconographic grid — where the figures sit, what they hold, and which attributes identify them.
- Do you ship to my country?
- Yes. Shipping is insured door to door and customs paperwork is prepared on your behalf. Duty and import tax are set by your jurisdiction and are not included in the price shown.
- Can I see a work before it is finished?
- There are progress photographs at each stage, and you can request them. There are no photographs of the face before the eyes are opened, and none will be sent — the work is not considered finished until then.
- Can the work be consecrated before it ships?
- Yes. It is arranged before the work is packed rather than after, so tell us in your enquiry or when you confirm the commission. We arrange a qualified lama or practitioner according to the type of thangka, and the dossier records who performed the ceremony and in which lineage. A work that was not consecrated carries no consecration line at all.
- What if the work does not suit the room?
- Return it within 14 days of delivery for a full refund. It must come back in the crate it arrived in, which is why the crate is built to be reopened and closed again rather than cut open.
- Do you offer an authentication service for works bought elsewhere?
- No. We are the seller, not an assessor, and an appraisal from the party that sold you something is worth very little in any case. A conservator or an auction house will be able to help.
