Shipping & Insurance

How a painting leaves the studio, how it is packed, and what happens if the crate arrives damaged.

5 sections

01Complimentary worldwide delivery

Shipping is included on every acquisition, to every destination we can legally send to. The price you see on a work is the price delivered — there is no carriage line to reconcile at checkout.

We dispatch to over 60 countries. Where a destination requires an import licence for cultural objects, we will tell you before you pay, not after.

02How a work is packed

Paintings are interleaved with acid-free tissue, humidified where the destination is arid, and sealed against moisture in a barrier bag. The sealed work travels inside a rigid, foam-lined portfolio, which is itself floated inside a double-wall crate with a crush zone on all six faces.

Nothing is rolled. A thangka is mineral pigment on a prepared ground, and rolling it — even briefly — is the single most common cause of irreversible loss.

03Insurance

Every shipment is insured door-to-door for the full invoice value, including the cost of carriage. The policy is arranged before the crate is sealed, not at the moment it goes missing.

If a crate is visibly damaged on arrival, note the damage on the carrier's paperwork before you sign, photograph the crate and the inner packing, and contact us the same day. We will open the claim; you will not be asked to negotiate with a carrier.

04Duties and taxes

Import duties, VAT and any local clearance charges are the responsibility of the recipient. We prepare the commercial invoice and customs documentation on your behalf and declare the true value of the work — we will not under-declare, because a claim on an under-declared shipment is void.

05Lead times

Works held in stock dispatch within five working days. Painted-to-order works carry the lead time shown on the product page, counted in working days from the date the brief is confirmed rather than from the order date.

If a lead time slips, we tell you the new date as soon as we know it. A thangka is not something to be rushed, but you should never have to ask how it is going.
